my love of designing cool and fun outfits is severely impeded by the fact that twitch and grace are both incredibly, deeply unfashionable people
grace has sideburns half a decade out of vogue. he's been wearing the same half-navy uniform for like 2 decades. he pays much more attention to what makes him look respectable by fashion standards, but he is also very boring and he doesn't wanna stand out. a patterned tie would look out of place on him
twitch doesn't care about what looks respectable (or what they're wearing, frankly) but they also are incredibly out of fashion at all times. the frilly shirt, the low ponytail, the lack of waistcoat??? girl what are you doing. this isn't victorian
if it wasn't for the fact that i want them to have a semi decent palette i promise you not a single colour on their outfit would match. when patterned fabric becomes accessible everyone's corneas are doomed. ok yeah the confidence and "will wear whatever the hell they want" is a look in itself but they are Not fashionable

obviously we know i like to romanticize the little things and whatever but i really do enjoy going through my grandmas recipe box… i’d never make half of these because my grandmother has always been determined to eat as few calories as possible and so half these recipes look like birdseed. but it’s interesting to go through because there’s things like a whole selection of recipes clipped together with the note “Christmas 1977”, or recipes from friends who include extras like “8 oz love from me to you, Charlotte” and seeing recurring names (some of thm people I remember her still knowing when I was little) at the top of index cards that have little notes “when I’m just making it for me and my husband I use x amount, but for your kids you might want y amount” and cutouts from magazines and newspapers and one of them is a printout with a note at the top telling me it was from my moms home ec class in high school that she liked enough to bring home. and another is just a piece of paper with a childs drawings on it.
some more are from the great-grandmother i never met but inherited my middle name from. i can watch my grandmothers surname change in cards where she or the recipe-giver have written her name at the top as she divorces my moms father, remarries, then divorces him, too. someone in here has handwriting just like mine. a recipe for a chocolate milkshake clearly written by a child. recipes for tofu alternatives to everything written by my mom when i was very small. one index card just has yellowed newspaper cutouts of housewives writing to each other with tips on cleaning kitchenware.
it’s a fun little piece of family history that i appreciate because neither of my parents remain very close to their extended family and neither family has stayed very connected to the places they were from before my great-grandparents immigrated to the states i at least get to make lemon-strawberry butter knowing that my great-grandmother wrote this down so that my grandmother could make it when my mother was learning how to walk
